Ted Talk Carol Dweck: The Power of Believing That You Can Improve Annotation
My annotations focus mainly on rewording Dweck’s statements in a more easy to comprehend manner or expanding on her statements. Dweck talks a lot about when children see the value in the process they show greater improvement. I also pinpoint times when she relates to things like what I called the “2018 mindset” in my notes. I marked places where I can relate and wrote notes of my personally relatable experiences. Finally, I highlighted key sentences and phrases to focus on.
The main structures of my annotation are highlighting to show more important parts and footnotes to offer myself explanation or ideas for future consideration. Usually when I annotate I will read through the passage first then got back and highlight sections I thought to be important in some way. This could mean the section would make a good quote or the section was thought provoking. Off of these highlights I will make notes for myself in a few ways. One way may be to reword a statement so I better understand it. A second way would be to leave a note relating it to a personal experience I had. And the last way would be to expand off a statement to emphasize it. Once my annotation is complete it leaves me with a better understanding of the piece of writing and helps me in the future when I need to reference it.
